Welcome to Practical Life Strategies, the newsletter to help you live a rich and meaningful life!
In this first issue ...
I hope you find this issue of value. I invite you to forward it on to others who might find it the same.

-
Adopt a healthier diet for optimal health and to increase your energy levels. Eliminate processed foods, caffeine, soda pops and alcohol. Lifestyle stress and the daily-4pm-and-10pm-lows can trigger bingeing, so stock up on healthier and organic snack options for these moments. Finally, rehydrate with lots of water.
-
Reframe your language both in your thoughts and in your speech, to boost your self-esteem and confidence. Consciously substitute the self-criticisms, the self-defeating attitudes and the distorted beliefs with self-valuing dialogue, supportive responses and authentic beliefs.
-
Replace poor lifestyle routines, habits and behaviours that do not serve you - choose to enjoy a more balanced lifestyle. Shake up your routine - begin an exercise regime or engage in a new hobby. Explore meditation or yoga for some personal downtime. Cultivate behaviours that resonate with your values. Limit your exposure to negative media content. Simplify your life by decluttering your home or work space.
-
Release unhealthy relationships. Holding onto toxic relationships out of habit, routine or fear does not serve either party in any relationship. As we evolve and grow it's natural that we will outgrow some relationships. Making the decision to move away from any relationship is a difficult one - but by choosing to move forward with your life, you open yourself up to not only filling the void with relationships that will support and nurture you but to also reclaiming your personal power.
-
Create a career that aligns with your true passion and personal values. It is very easy to fall into a rut, to play it safe, to do what requires little effort on one's part. Choose instead to follow your bliss - and commit to immediately take the action-steps required for achieving your career dreams.

Question: I've begun meditating, how do i stop my mind from wandering? Thanks, Chris
Answer: Hi Chris,
There's mindfulness meditation, vibrational meditation and the Observing Silence exercise. Go with what works for you.
-
Mindfulness meditation: you want to focus your attention on your breadth. When you find your mind wandering, stop your thoughts and consciously bring your attention back to focusing on your breadth again. You want to stay in the present moment, be observant and reach a state of calmness.
-
Vibrational meditation: here you focus your attention on a word; choose any word that feels good when you say it; you could choose a phrase or a mantra even. The idea is to let the sound of the word/s vibrate through your body, which is what chanting is about. Again focusing on the word will help you direct your attention to the present moment.
-
Observing Silence: this is not the traditional meditation practised in spiritual disciplines. This is a contemplative exercise that you can do while walking or jogging - so you want to leave the ipod home for this one! Begin by winding down - you do this by letting the mindless chatter run its course. Then move on to introspection - ask specific questions about any situation that is of concern; reflect from a perspective of "What are the opportunities being presented here?", as opposed to deliberating the cause and effect of the situation. Allow the answers to surface.
